History of the site

Growth and Adaptation of the species to the Drought under several thinning treatments:Radiata pine silviculture plot nets were installed in 1998 in five private properties in Álava and Bizkaia by Forest Owners Association of the Basque Country. After four mensurations (1998, 2000, 2003 and 2012), the best adaptation of several types of Radiata pine silviculture to the climate of the mounts from the Basque Country is proved. The first step was the data collection of the same trees along the years. A database was created with these data. During the Reinfforce project, all the trees were measured by diameter and total height: 570 trees. To avoid the use of numeric, metallic brands, all the trees are located by GPS. In the case of some Markina and Muxika plots, 10 mean trees were selected to measure its wood quality by the Hitman ST300 and the Fakopp tools (two measures in each selected tree in its basal log). An analysis with all these data is expected along the final year of the project. Relationships between thinning regime, growth and climatic damages will be studied.
